plumbing

When we got new countertops installed recently, we also got a new sink (stainless steel banjo style) with them. In the interest of avoiding spending more money, I confidently said I could hook back up the disposal and sink. I thought ahead and took before photos. What you see below is the after photo...five or six hours after I started. How difficult can it be, right? I mean, its just some PVC pipe! Famous last words. I literally took four trips to the local home supply store and bought many fittings. I hadn't counted on the fact that with a new sink came new drain assemblies and new heights of pipe necessary. Through the day, I gained a new awareness of two things - the value of plumbers and the depth of my own inadequacy. After trying to make the old fitting work with the new assembly, I basically had to scrap the old stuff and make a new one in similar style.
After this experience, my plumbing advice to any of you similar fellas is as follows...
1.Measure the pipe once or twice or ten times if you need to.
2. Use pipe clay (plumber's putty)
3. Do a dry fit first
4. PRAY

After it was over and there were no drips, the official plumbing inspector (above photo) verified my work. Good enough for him is good enough for me!

Hi, Trents!!

Just catching up on you guys...glad to hear that your vacation was great. We are taking Ren to camp today. Mark is planning a trip down the Ocoee with his brother in two weeks. So, he will get to enjoy the great outdoors as well. Give Bryson a hug for all of us.

So excited for your success! Finishing a project like that, even if it takes hours longer than expected always makes me beam with pride!

Oh and whenever people come over and you take them on a tour of your new home, you should definately include under the kitchen sink as one of your stops. "over the sink you can see the beautiful view of our back yard, and here under the sink you can see my MADD plumbing skills! Thank you, thank you very much!" You can even bow if you feel so enclined!

Great JOB!!!

Totally know how you feel. Matt and I had new appliances delivered this weekend and we opted to hook everything up ourselves. Big mistake! It took us all day Saturday and 2 trips to the hardware store to get the fridge and dishwashed hooked up properly. We decided when we have to buy new appliances again that we are just going to pay for someone else to hook it all up. It wasn't worth the trouble. Matt was so frustrated with himself because he felt that a 2 yr. old could figure out how to hook up two pipes. Oh the joys of home ownership!
