Note: Don't try this at home! This was way more work than we were expecting! It took days and days of hard labor- tilling the ground, bringing in 6 tons of dirt, leveling the yard, rolling it to pack, laying stonework because they were off by a couple inches, then getting five 1 ton bales of sod that had to be cut to size, flipped and carefully laid in place (the bales were slightly cheaper than pallets -but a lot more work!). Thanks to Chris C., Josh and especially my dad for helping Caleb with this tremendous project!

Ground prepared...

The guys at work! The grass is Bermuda

Here you can see the border they laid. The stonework matches the planter around the tree.

All done! I think it looks great and hopefully our hard work will pay off. Yes, that is a for sale sign in the front yard!

OH no! Snow?! Days after the sod was laid, we had a 4 inch snowfall! The first I had seen since I've lived here. Luckily, we think the snow insulated the grass from the freezing air and that it will survive.

Since the snow, we have had warm sunny weather and lots of spring rains so we have hardly had to water. It is even started to green up!
