thoughts

Here are some thoughts I had awhile back about the world in which we live. Be not deceived...

Lies of this World
1. This is all there is (II Cor. 5 proves this wrong)
2. You are your own master (see II Cor. 5, but we heard it in the Garden)
3. You should do what you want (follows from the 2nd lie)
4. What you HAVE is most important
5. Your happiness is the ultimate goal (isn't it in the Declaration of Independence?)
6. Everyone else is doing it (see Elijah’s life to know this is wrong)
7. Truth is relative (“what’s true for you…”)

Lies of “Christian” culture
1. If someone sounds spiritual, they must be spiritual (see Paul’s writings about false prophets)
2. Activity and business are signs of spiritual maturity (see Martha’s life)
3. God helps those who help themselves (there is a component of human responsibility, but God helps those whose hands are empty”-Lewis)
4. Try harder and you can do it (human achievement ultimately fails w/o God)
5. It’s just a little sin (because of how Christians have “deadly” sins – all equal w/ regard to God’s hatred of sin, but not equal w/ regard to consequences of sin)
6. We’re under God’s grace, so… (we should yield to the weaker brother, not use grace as an excuse to do that which might be a stone of stumbling)
