B'ham

I've been down at UAB in Birmingham doing a rotation in Emergency Medicine. It's been a great month and I learned a lot. Here's a few Birmingham sights you might recognize if you know the city.

We listened to patriotic music from the UAB band and then watched fireworks on July 4th from right there on UAB's campus. It was quite a show and I hope to post some more photos later.

The small blurb you see in the bottom right of the firework photo is actually this statue of Vulcan - a century-old tribute to Birmingham's steel industry. There's a lot of history with him, but basically, the city just finished renovation on him a few years ago and the view from the statue's feet is pretty spectacular.
The photos at the bottom of this entry are from the Cahaba River, it runs diagonally through the city. It's a haven for kayaking, canoeing/floating, fishing and birding. One day while I was in Birmingham, I took my kayak out on the river. Although it had as much current as a pond at sunset because of a stage three drought, it was an enjoyable time.
Hope to post photos of Joshua and Lindsey's wedding in a week or two. For all three, C
